Hunter Schafer Gets Backlash For Endorsing Anti-Non-Binary Post

“Euphoria” star Hunter Schafer faces backlash for apparently endorsing an anti-non-binary post.

Schafer, 23, recently “found” Instagram user @piggytaiwan’s lengthy post blaming the non-binary community for conservative legislation deeming hormone replacement therapy and gender-affirming surgery medically unnecessary in Florida.

The actress, who is a transgender woman, also left five exclamation marks in the comments.

The post claimed the rule change “means more transgender people will have to pay for their transitions out of pocket, leaving more of [them] in sex work.”

“You just couldn’t stand letting trans binary people be the voice of the community,” the message continued.

The author also claimed that non-binary trans people “demonized” those who questioned their faith, calling them “truscum/transmedicalists” — or people who believe that being trans depends on gender dysphoria or needing medical treatment to pass.

“What you don’t understand is that binary trans women and men don’t have the luxury of playing with what it means to be trans in the same way,” the post continued.

“For the last time, I’m begging non-binary people to take a seat and let binary trans people and more specifically black trans women be the voices of the community because they are the ones at risk.”

Several fans took to the comments section and Twitter to express their outrage at Schafer’s apparent endorsement.

“Hunter Schafer finds that non-binary people also pass medically and are also affected by laws that affect binary transgender people,” one person tweeted.

“Hunter Schafer when she finds out that transphobia is to blame for transphobic laws and not for non-binary PPL,” added another.

“hunter schafer who hates non-binary ppl was not on my bingo card but is SO rich white woman of hers but also rooted in the idea that non-binary people are just ‘trans-lite’ and therefore deserve less affirmative care and that’s a very harmful mentality that we should disable <3,” wrote a third user.

“A white woman is first and foremost a white woman. jager schafer, regardless of whether she is trans, has chosen to align herself with white and/or cis people and put the blame on non-binary people. it’s very easy to pick a scapegoat instead of challenging your own internalized transphobia,” another tweeted.
