Meghan King struggles to potty train son with cerebral palsy

Meghan King turned to her nearly 1 million Instagram followers for potty training advice on Tuesday, revealing that her 4-year-old son Hart has encountered a number of “roadblocks” in the bathroom.

The 37-year-old “Real Housewives of Orange County” explained how Hart’s cerebral palsy affects his muscles, but noted that there are “other side effects that people don’t talk about as much,” such as how the toddler is almost at school and still must be sensible.

“I think for Hart it’s because of his sensory issues,” King said in a two-minute video. “At first I didn’t think he had the feeling of ‘the go’, but now I know he has; he’s just afraid of the toilet.

“He knows when to go, he can hold it,” she added. “If I put on his swimsuit and tell him, ‘Don’t shit in your swimsuit,’ he won’t. He will save his poop to poop in his pull-up when I put it on for a nap or bedtime.”

The former Bravo personally said she’s tried to bribe the toddler with toys, candy, and even a cat — but nothing seems to motivate him.

After that failed, she tried to get Hart a toilet aid that would help with his “balance” problems, but again encountered resistance.

“My pediatrician told me today to just keep him naked around the house. I tried that and he peed on the floor. She said I should, you know, let him clean it up,” the lifestyle influencer concluded the video, before asking her fans for “words of wisdom.”

Fellow parents were quick to respond in the comments section with a wide variety of tips and tricks.

“Another mom told me to put food coloring in the toilet (blue and his pee will make it green) or (red and his pee will make it orange) kind of like magic tricks…I never did that, but I thought that it was pretty genius,” suggested one follower.

“Try a ‘potty watch’ that my autistic son absolutely loved! He was also afraid of the potty and the blushing noise😉,” another mother added.

King welcomed Hart and his twin brother Hayes in June 2018 with her ex-husband Jim Edmonds. Since the couple’s bitter divorce in May 2021, she has faced the struggles of single motherhood. The former couple also shares 5-year-old daughter Aspen.
