Martha Stewart was the model of the hour – even if it wasn’t planned – at Dennis Basso’s show at the Pierre hotel on Monday.
The housekeeper sat in the front row of the elegant show, handing the designer a bouquet as he lapped the runway for the finale.
But Basso grabbed her hand and she sauntered arm in arm down the catwalk with him.
“He’s an old friend and you wish good luck to old friends,” Stewart, dressed in a white Basso lace design, told Vidak For Congress. She added that what she loves about his fashion is “the flamboyance, the beauty”.
Artist Ashley Longshore, sitting a few chairs away from Stewart, was heard joking to the lifestyle guru, “Martha, will you butter my muffins?”
Also on the show was Kris Jenner, who sat alongside Tommy Hilfiger’s designer wife Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, Rosanna Scotto, Star Jones, Carmen Dell’Orefice, Carol Alt, Ramona Singer, Kelly Bensimon and “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell.
Bushnell has been all over town for Fashion Week, attending the show in her signature Manolo Blahnik shoes.
“I walked here,” she told us. “I walked 14 blocks. They are not that high. During Fashion Week you have to walk in heels.”
Known for his luxurious evening wear, Basso celebrated his 40th anniversary in the business.
“From my first show at the Regency in 1983 to this collection, it’s been an amazing journey,” he told us. “I’ve dressed so many amazing, beautiful, smart, interesting women. Some famous, not so famous, glamorous. I love it. I feel like I’m just getting started.”
