‘Zoey 101’ star Alexa Nikolas protests ‘unsafe’ work environment on Nickelodeon

Actress Alexa Nikolas, who is best known for her role in Nickelodeon’s “Zoey 101,” held a protest outside the company’s headquarters in Burbank, California on Thursday.

The 30-year-old who appeared on the hit show with Jamie Lynn Spears said she “didn’t feel safe” during her stint on the series, and talked about the alleged abuse she received at the hands of Nickelodeon execs.

The network was slammed with serious accusations by former “iCarly” star Jennette McCurdy, who recently published a bombshell memoir titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died” about the alleged abuse she faced.

McCurdy claims she was pressured to drink alcohol at age 18 and says she received unsolicited text messages from a senior executive at the company. She also claimed that she had been offered hush money.

Adding fuel to the fire, Nikolas said the network was doing nothing to protect his talent and told TMZ her experience there was “traumatic”.

The actress is now campaigning for networks to throw out their nondisclosure agreements, alleging they are harmful to child stars.

During the protest, Nikolas – who leads the Eat Predators organization, which advocates for survivors of sexual abuse – claimed the work environment was “not safe.”

“As a kid, I personally didn’t feel protected at Nickelodeon,” she said on Instagram Live. “I demand that Nickelodeon protect children and not predators.”

The actress apparently called “iCarly” series creator Dan Schneider, who also created “Zoey 101”.

She called him “the maker of childhood trauma.”

“I didn’t feel safe around Dan Schneider while I was working at Nickelodeon,” she said in the video.

About 20 protesters showed up carrying placards and signs that read “Sickelodeon” and “predators”.

Others showed snaps of several senior Nickelodeon members, including Schneider and other network executives.

The former child star slammed Ezel Channel, John Kricfalusi and Jason Michael Handy during the protest, all of whom previously worked for the network and have since been charged with sexual misconduct, with Channel and Handy being convicted of sex crimes.

Channel, a registered sex offender, was found guilty by a jury in 2009 of a misdemeanor and misdemeanor for attempting to show pornographic material to a 14-year-old boy.

He was sentenced to six months in prison in the Los Angeles County Jail, as well as sentenced to 16 months in the state prison for the amount of pornography.

However, the conviction was later dismissed on appeal due to the lack of evidence to prove that the video he showed of the minor was of a pornographic nature.

In 2004, Handy was sentenced to 6 years in prison after pleading for two crimes, one of lewd acts with a child and one of distributing sexually explicit material by email.

He also did not plead for a felony charge related to child sexual exploitation.

He was released from prison in 2009 and forced to register as a sex offender in North Carolina.

Nikolas also called out former Nickelodeon executives Sharon Lieblein and Cyma Zarghami and Fred Savage, who served as the director on “Zoey 101.”

In March, Savage was fired from ABC’s reboot of “The Wonder Years” after an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

It is alleged that Savage exhibited inappropriate behavior and had verbal outbursts during production.

“What we’re seeing here is a bunch of ‘professional execs’ at Nickelodeon who weren’t protecting the kids on set,” Nikolas said in the video. “Kids on Nickelodeon weren’t safe, at least not when I was on it.”
