“The Lord of the Rings” remains one of the most influential book, film and media empires to this day. The stories, characters and themes, created by the mastermind JRR Tolkien, have been consumed by people around the world, providing hope, inspiration and magic to those who need it.
Adapted into the highly successful “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, produced and directed by Peter Jackson and further expanded into “The Hobbit” trilogy, the franchise has achieved tremendous levels of success, accolades and accolades for their staunch respect for the original source material.
Now the arrival of “Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” on Prime Video heralds a whole new look into the lives of the characters and people of Middle Earth. The notoriously hefty $715 million Amazon has reportedly spent on the television series promises a budget to pay new lead characters for exciting new adventures, terrifying journeys and magic beyond your wildest dreams.
To understand the complex characters in the Tolkien and “Lord of the Rings” franchises, the New York Post spoke exclusively to two of the emerging voices in American geekdom: Paul Florez-Taylor – known as the Comic King – and Luke James – known as Pop Media Maven. As a team, we got together to create the definitive list of “Lord of the Rings” characters that align with astrology and the zodiac. RAM (MARCH 21 – APRIL 19): Gandalf
As a passionate leader within Middle Earth, Gandalf embodies the power and fire of an Aries. He has a natural affinity for light and flame, wielding it against dark forces such as the Balrog and the Witch King of Angmar. He is a symbol of rebirth and learns to embrace this power that is latent in all of us. Gandalf is brave and kind, always ready to go into battle and defend those who cannot resist the shadows of evil.
Taurus (APRIL 20 – MAY 20): Samwise Gamgee
Loyal, compassionate and grounded, Samwise Gamgee represents the mighty Taurus. Nothing and no one can resist the eternal strength and tenacity of Samwise, which can also be said for a Taurus. Samwise also tends to enjoy his senses, live in the moment and carry the weight of others when they need him most. Like a real Taurus, Samwise would give his life not only for the betterment of the world, but also to save his friend from harm.
GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 20): Merry & Pippin

The perfect embodiment of the Gemini constellation are the two hobbits, Merry and Pippin. In a way, they are like two opposite sides of the same coin, but they also share so many similarities. Both are naturally excitable, long for adventure and new horizons and are infinitely curious about the world. No adventure is too big for them to embark on.
CANCER (JUNE 21 – JULY 22): Arwen & Eowyn

When it comes to two characters who are the heart and soul of the films “The Lord of the Rings”, both Arwen and Eowyn embody the sensibility and strength of the Cancer zodiac sign. Arwen offers her light and magic to protect her true love, Aragorn, and even runs the risk of being forgotten as darkness grows. Eowyn also suffers with her emotions as she falls in love with Aragorn. However, she shows the steadfastness, loyalty and devotion to her family and people especially noticeable: because she is even fit for combat in war, despite everyone’s fear for her safety.
LEO (JULY 23 – AUGUST 22): Aragorn
As future and future king, Aragorn embodies the courage, strength and royalty of the Leo constellation. His natural skills as a warrior and leader elevate him to King Elessar, the rightful king of Gondor. He is protective, honorable and fierce, just like this Fire sign. He is also not afraid to be vulnerable and show his love and respect for his community.
VIRGO (AUGUST 23 – SEPTEMBER 22): Gimli
Strong, sturdy and reliable, Gimli embodies the Virgo zodiac sign. His innate stubbornness matches this Earth sign’s personality, as does his heritage as a dwarf. They have learned to rely on the physical world, build their own great cities and defiantly guard them. Gimli also has a soft spot, although he doesn’t show it to everyone.
LIBRA (23 SEPTEMBER – 22 OCTOBER): Legolas
Elegant, charming and ethereal, Legolas the elf easily reflects the Libra zodiac sign. Elves are known for their magic, grace and beauty, just like Libras. They also value art, music and connection, and are willing to form alliances to aid the betterment of their people and Middle-earth. Legolas also possesses incredible attention to detail and precision, which Libras often possess. He is extremely loyal and will befriend anyone, even dwarves!
SCORPION (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21): Sauron & Saruman

When it comes to the Scorpio zodiac sign, they can easily align with the Dark Lord Sauron and the corrupt wizard (aka Istari), Saruman. Their alliance to work together to rule the world is reflected in the two planetary rulers who oversee Scorpio: Mars and Pluto. Saruman thrives on war and building armies to manifest his desires, while Sauron commits to total and complete domination. While Scorpios are certainly not a bad zodiac sign, they are still “all or nothing” about anything they crave.
SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 – DECEMBER 21): Gollum and the Orcs

Sagittarius is aligned with Gollum and the Orcs. This is because Gollum is naturally curious about the world, always eager to pursue adventure even when it puts him in danger. His ability to scale and escape challenges is exactly how a Sagittarius will parade to victory and new horizons whenever they can. Although the Orcs are seen as antagonists in “The Lord of the Rings”, they are also simply out for new experiences and to assert themselves, rather than being locked up, controlled, or kept in a box. Also Sagittarius can’t be stopped no matter how anyone tries and they will use their Fire element to burn through obstacles.
CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 – JANUARY 19): Treebeard
Found deep in the forests, the Ents have a deep connection to nature. Treebeard is the perfect embodiment of the Capricorn zodiac sign. He takes the time to make his decisions, is not rushed and knows what he wants in life. He is also infinitely gifted with wisdom and perspective far beyond other characters. Is it any wonder that this earth sign is a grounding force in Middle Earth?
AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 18): Frodo Baggins & Bilbo Baggins

When it comes to the Aquarius zodiac sign, Frodo and Bilbo Baggins both easily represent the water bearer. This is due to their intrinsic desire to explore the world and leave the Shire behind. True to Aquarius, they are not afraid to question their lives and look beyond their surroundings. While other people are too traditional and conversational, both Frodo and Bilbo are fascinated by the wonders Middle Earth can bring them.
FISHING (19 FEBRUARY – 20 MARCH): Galadriel
As a powerful mystical elf, Galadriel embodies the Pisces constellation. She has deep and deep magical powers and a natural grace and elegance to her. She also has a strong connection with her feelings and emotions and honors them even when others don’t know how to look within. This introspective nature brings her a lot of insight and intuition.
