Peta Murgatroyd in ‘final stages’ of IVF, pregnancy ‘soon’

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are one step closer to parenting two children.

“Things are going really well,” Murgatroyd told “Entertainment Tonight” about her journey into in vitro fertilization while attending the ESPY Awards 2022 on Wednesday.

“We are very excited. We’re kind of in the final phase of it. There should be – fingers crossed – a pregnancy pretty soon. “

When asked how IVF has affected her marriage, Murgatroyd, 36, said she and Chmerkovskiy, 42, are still going strong despite their fertility issues.

“You hear the horror stories about it — marriages breaking up, all that stuff. It’s pretty dramatic, but it didn’t end there,” she said.

“But yeah, there have been times when I thought, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe I’m doing this.’ But honestly, we’re good, this is the way for us.”

However, Chmerkovskiy admitted that he was initially hesitant about sharing their IVF story on social media.

“I was skeptical of its openness and [asked], ‘How open do we want to be?’ Now I realize the reason people have a hard time with it is because it’s such a taboo to talk [about it]’ he explained to ‘ET’.

“A lot of people need to understand that it might sidestep a lot of the drama if you know this is an option.”

Murgatroyd, meanwhile, believed that being open about IVF would help remove the embarrassment surrounding it.

“It feels good to share it,” she says. “It’s not like, ‘Oh, look at me, look at me!’ It’s like, “Finally I can say something without feeling closed off and not feeling bad about it and not feeling alone.” It feels good.”

The couple “Dancing With the Stars” are already parents to 5-year-old son Shai.

In June, Murgatroyd revealed that she has had three miscarriages in the past two years. Reflecting on her experience, she said she was “embarrassed” and “embarrassed” at first.

“I’m someone who takes pride in health and wellness,” she told People. “I exercise every day. But as I realized, that doesn’t really go hand in hand with the reproductive system.”

Meanwhile, Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy get ready to welcome a new niece or nephew.

The Ukrainian’s brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, is expecting his first child with his wife Jenna Johnson.

“We’ve been waiting so long for this for them,” Murgatroyd told “ET” on Wednesday. “They’ve wanted it for so long. When they finally told us it was pure joy. They are so ready [they’ve] ready for years.”

Maksim added jokingly, “Even if they aren’t, I can’t wait to become an uncle — and for Val to know exactly what it’s like.”
