Misty Copeland is mom!
The ballerina and her husband, Olu Evans, secretly welcomed a now three-month-old baby boy named Jackson, she revealed Thursday.
“I’m on maternity leave now,” Copeland, 39, told People. “But I will be back on the podium in 2023, hopefully in the fall.”
The dancer explained that she chose to keep her pregnancy a secret because she is a “quite private” person.
“Especially with my son, I probably wouldn’t want him on camera for anything,” she said. “But when it comes to my career and what I do, I’m really open to it.”
Copeland did, however, provide insight into an upcoming milestone: her son’s first international trip.
“We just got Jackson’s passport a few days ago,” she told the magazine. “So we are on our way to Corsica in France this summer.”
The new mom also praised Evans for being “a wonderful dad” to their newborn.
“It’s never easy, but I couldn’t do it without a support system,” she gushed about the lawyer. “My husband is incredible. … He has been there for me my entire career helping me balance those things.”
The couple married in July 2016, almost a year after the author of “Ballerina Body” confirmed their engagement.
Prior to her wedding, Copeland explained that she was aiming for a “simple, easy” ceremony.
“I just want it to be simple and classy and not make me feel like I’m in a tutu,” she told E! News in October 2015. “I feel like I can become a fairy princess on stage and wear incredible costumes and gowns to galas.”
