Meghan Markle’s Variety Cover Delayed After Queen Elizabeth II’s Death

Meghan Markle’s upcoming Variety cover story for the song “Power of Women” has been postponed out of respect for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The 41-year-old Archetypes podcast host received the honor alongside the likes of Ava DuVernay, Elizabeth Olsen and Hillary and Chelsea Clinton.

The magazine announced Thursday that Markle’s cover will not be available until further notice as she and the royal family mourn the loss of Her Majesty, who died on September 8 at the age of 96.

“Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was chosen as one of this year’s stars,” Variety wrote via Twitter Wednesday.

“The Duchess’ cover has been postponed to a later date, out of respect for the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II.”

In addition, Markle will no longer be attending the Los Angeles event accompanying the “Power of Women” release on September 28.

The “Suits” alum and her husband, Prince Harry – Elizabeth’s grandson – are currently in the UK preparing for the sovereign’s state funeral on Monday.

The pair raised eyebrows when they were seen holding hands during the Monarch’s procession on Wednesday – as they are no longer working members of the royal family.

“Harry and Meghan are grieving relatives and are under no obligation to follow royal protocol,” body language expert Inbaal Honigman told British newspaper The Daily Express in defense of the couple.

“Their hands are there to support each other emotionally during this loss,” Honigman added.

Markle and Harry, 38, gave up their royal duties as Duke and Duchess of Sussex in January 2020 amid lingering issues such as media scrutiny and inner turmoil within the family. They have since moved to California.

Despite some tension with the remaining royals in England, Markle has only spoken positively of Elizabeth.

“It’s unbelievable, I think, you know, a) to be able to meet her through [Harry’s] lens, not only with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but also with the love he has for her as his grandmother,” the former actress said of the Queen in a 2017 CBS joint interview with Harry.

“All those layers have been so important to me, so when I met her, I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect that I was able to have that time with her,” Markle continued. “And we really have one — she’s an incredible woman.”
