Meghan Markle Cries, Wipes Tears at Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral

Meghan Markle became emotional at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday morning.

The Duchess of Sussex was seen wiping her tears as her lip quivered as the late monarch’s coffin was transferred to a hearse at Wellington Arch. From there, the Queen’s casket set out for its final journey to Windsor Castle.

Members of the royal family, including 41-year-old Markle, watched as the porters lifted the coffin from the state gun and loaded it into the back of the Jaguar hearse.

For the historic event, Markle wore the diamond-and-pearl earrings the late monarch gave her, as well as a Stella McCartney dress she’d previously worn to honor the Queen on another occasion.

Markle wasn’t the only royal to get emotional during the gloomy morning, though.

King Charles III, 73, was photographed wiping tears as he sat with other members of the royal family, including Queen Consort Camilla and Prince William. Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, also watched her pat her eyes with a tissue — and at one point comfort Prince George — while those around her remained relatively stoic.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96 after a reign of 70 years – the longest ever by a British monarch. After her death, her son Charles became king. He honored his late mother with a symbolic wreath of flowers and a heartfelt remark which he placed on top of her coffin.
