Love may be blind – but this reality couple apparently struggled to make their way to a bright future together without a camera crew.
It was announced on Sunday that the final marriage of season 2 of Netflix’s “Love Is Blind” is no more, with Danielle Ruhl filing for divorce from Nick Thompson on August 15, according to documents obtained exclusively by TMZ.
The news came on the heels of a separate update on the only other couple who made their wedding through the second season finale, Iyanna McNeely and Jarrette Jones: the duo announced in a joint statement on Instagram on August 17 that they, too, will continue. with the divorce proceedings.
Perhaps it was this summer’s scorching rays that shed a sharp light on more entrenched relationship issues — which began with the show’s isolation pod-mediated encounters between these fleetingly triumphant reality dating show candidates.
As Ruhl told Vidak For Congress in March, finding “structure” around her collaboration with Thompson “after being thrown back into reality” has been a challenge.
The pair even hinted at their attempts to “duplicate” the circumstances in which they met.
“It led to a lot of travel. It led to us spending a lot of time with friends and family, and really having to plan for it,” Thompson said at the time. “We made sure we had a bit of a routine so we could keep building on the foundation we had.”
Still, the pair seemed to be going strong in recent months, with the most recent social media-shared photos of them together – which appear to show the now-ex couple on Lollapalooza – posted to Ruhl’s Instagram on August. 1.
And, as late as July, Ruhl was busy making plans for she and Thompson to renew their vows in the near future. “On our two- or three-year anniversary, we really want to re-do a reception to make sure all our families can attend,” she told Us Weekly last month. “I have always dreamed of my dream wedding and wedding planning and a bachelorette party. And so we’ll do all that again…when we have the time.”
