Jared Leto to Play Late Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld in Upcoming Biopic

Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto ensures that Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy lives on.

Leto, 50, will be donning the late fashion designer’s signature darkened shades in an upcoming biopic.

“I feel like this is a completely circular moment and Karl would be proud of what we’re doing,” Leto told Women’s Wear Daily of the late German designer, who died in 2019 at the age of 85.

He teased that it will capture important relationships in Karl Lagerfeld’s life, told through an unpredictable lens, just like the man himself,” though he kept the key aspects of the upcoming film tight.

“My role is to portray him on screen as honestly as possible,” Leto added.

In an effort to honor Lagerfeld’s legacy through the lens, Leto, who will co-produce the film with his partner Emma Ludbrook, has appointed three of the late designer’s closest and most trusted business associates as executive producers on the film.

These include Karl Lagerfeld CEO Pier Paolo Righi, Lagerfeld’s senior vice president of image and communications Caroline Lebar, and the late Chanel’s personal assistant, Chanel’s personal assistant, Sébastien Jondeau.

“We are excited to share that we will be co-creating a film about Karl Lagerfeld with Academy Award-winning actor @JaredLeto, celebrating his life and legacy,” said Karl Lagerfeld’s official Twitter account.

While it may be a daunting thought to portray one of fashion’s most notable faces on the silver screen, Leto has extensive experience in that field.
