Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds has announced that he and his wife, Aja Volkman, have split after more than a decade of marriage.
“I am saddened to say that after many wonderful years together, Aja and I have broken up,” the singer tweeted on friday. “Being great parents to our children is our number one priority. Thank you for supporting us with love and care all these years.”
The former couple share four children: daughter Arrow, 10, twin daughters Gia and Coco, 5, and son Valentine, 2.
Reynolds and Volkman married in 2011.
In early 2018, they announced that they were planning to divorce.
“After 7 beautiful years together, Aja and I’s marriage has come to an end,” the rocker tweeted to his fans at the time. “Our children remain the most important thing in our lives, and we will continue to co-parent them with all our love.”
However, later that year, Reynolds revealed that he and Volkman never went through divorce proceedings, reconciled, and even co-wrote the song “Bad Liar.”
Volkman shared an emotional message on Instagram in which she praised her husband.
“I’m proud of you @danreynolds. I’m proud of your humility and ability to still emerge as the basketball coaching, baby-loving dad that you are,” she gushed. “I know it’s been a crazy road. It killed us both on so many occasions. Last year we killed each other and now we are rebuilding.”
Reynolds formed the popular band in Utah in 2008 after attending Brigham Young University.
The ‘believing’ singer, who was raised Mormon, previously confessed to regretting the anti-gay message he preached as a missionary.
Reynolds praised his wife for his change of heart, saying, “She taught me what I already knew in my heart, which is being gay is beautiful.”
