People around the world mourn the loss of rapper Coolio, including some of hip-hop’s biggest names.
Fellow rapper Ice Cube, who collaborated on numerous songs with the Grammy winner, took to Twitter Wednesday night to pay tribute to the late musician.
“This is sad news. I’m witnessing this man’s rut to the top of the industry,” he tweeted alongside reports of Coolio’s passing, with the addition ‘Rest in Peace’.
Another colleague of the “Fantastic Voyage” rapper, Vanilla Ice, eexpressed his sorrow after hearing the loss.
“I’m panicking, I just heard that my good friend Coolio has passed away,” tweeted the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper. The pair toured together last year.
Actor Martin Lawrence too went to Twitter to send his “deepest condolences and prayers” to the rapper’s family.
Questlove shared a photo of Coolio — whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr. is – on his Instagram and wrote: “Peaceful Journey Brother.”
The host of ‘Hot Ones’, Sean Evans, reflected on meeting the iconic rapper in 2016 during his appearance on the hit YouTube series.
“The first CD I ever bought in my life and the most legendary Wing 10 Last Dab these eyes have ever seen,” he tweeted featuring a photo of the rapper’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” album cover, with the addition “RIP Coolio.”
Fellow 90’s rap icon MC Hammer too showed love to the late rapper on Twitter, calling him “one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known.”
According to TMZ, the rapper ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ passed away on Wednesday at the age of 59.
According to the rapper’s longtime manager, Jarez, Coolio was at a friend’s house in Los Angeles when he went to the bathroom.
After noticing that the rapper was taking a long time, the friend went to check on him – only to find the rapper unconscious on the floor.
After the paramedics arrived, the “CU When You Get There” rapper was pronounced dead.
Although it has not been confirmed, medics believe the rapper went into cardiac arrest.
He leaves behind his six children and ex-wife, Josefa Salina.
