Taylor Swift caused fans to be furious at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2022 by hinting that she may be re-releasing her album ‘Reputation’ soon.
Taking home the award for Best Longform Video at Sunday’s awards ceremony, the singer said it was “an indication we’ve done something right” — a line her Swifties know all too well.
One Twitter user noted the resemblance to a lyric from Swift’s “Reputation” song “Call It What You Want,” in which she repeats, “I did one thing right.”
“WE DID SOMETHING RIGHT????? SHE GIVES EASTER EGGS EVERYWHERE,” the viewer wrote next to a clip from the superstar’s acceptance speech.
While the speculation may seem a little long, Swift is known for giving her fans cryptic hints, called Easter eggs, ahead of major projects.
Fans also noted that singer’s “Lover” crystal-covered dress bore a striking resemblance to the one she wore in her “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, kicking off the “Reputation” era.
Swift appeared to be covered in thousands of glittering stones in Sunday’s Oscar de la Renta dress — similar to how she bathed in a bath of diamonds in the 2017 music video. The dress’s high neckline also mimics the chunky necklaces she wears. wore in ‘LWYMMD’.
The “August” singer even wore her hair in an almost identical updo, complete with her signature red lip.
Once is a chance, twice is a coincidence, but the third time is a pattern: fans were completely convinced that they had cracked the code when Swift posted a video on TikTok with a very specific audio.
In the short clip, the singer shows off her sparkly ensemble with Blackpink’s song “Pink Venom”.
Swifties believe “venom” was a nod to the snake imagery the singer used in the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, as well as the set design used on her “Reputation” stadium tour.
“EVERYTHING SCREAMS REPUTATION”, a fan tweeted alongside screenshots of the apparent evidence.
The pop icon graced the red carpet of the VMA in 2022 for the first time in three years to celebrate her five nominations.
In addition to Best Longform Video, Swift won Video of the Year and Best Direction for her short film “All Too Well”, which also took home awards for Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
The entertainer has re-recorded her first six albums since Scooter Braun bought her master recordings in 2019, then sold them to a $300 million investment fund in 2020.
