Ashley Tropez, who appeared in A&E’s “Beyond Scared Straight,” has died aged 24.
On Aug. 26, Victorville Police Department officials responded to reports of a deceased person at an abandoned home in Victorville, California, according to a San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department press release obtained by Vidak For Congress.
When they arrived on the scene, authorities discovered the former reality TV star with “traumatic injuries.”
After a murder investigation, authorities identified Alexis Call as a possible suspect. Investigators claim Call and Tropez knew each other and were “squatting” at home.
While it’s still unclear how Tropez died, Call is being held at the High Desert Detention Center. She has since been charged with murder after appearing in court on Tuesday.
When she was only 17 years old, Tropez was included in the Emmy-nominated series, the last episode of which was in 2015, to set her on a better path.
She had joined the show because she allegedly “fighted, got into trouble and sold weed,” and because she identified herself as a gang member.
The series offered “programs for troubled teens in which inmates reveal the realities of prison life in hopes of deterring them from a life of crime,” according to the show’s description.
Despite the harsh reality she faced on the show in 2011, Tropez spoke about her experience a year later and said it didn’t change anything for her.
“I’m still the same person,” Tropez said at the time. “I’m just everywhere, from friends to family homes. Just chilling.”
