Filmmaker Kevin Smith, who directed Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck in the 2004 film ‘Jersey Girl’, got emotional during the A-list couple’s wedding in Georgia over the weekend.
“I’m an announcer,” the 52-year-old “Clerks” star explained to ET Canada on Monday. “I cry all the time. I cry watching episodes of ‘The Flash’. I’m crying for God’s sake watching ‘Degrassi’. But I cried everywhere [the wedding] because it was damn beautiful. Very nice.”
Smith shared a photo on Instagram on Saturday of him, his wife Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, his friend Jason Mewes and Mewes’ wife Jordan Mansanto, all dressed in white.
The “Jay and Silent Bob” star played coy when asked if the photo was taken during the Afflecks’ big day, joking to ET, “I happened to be wearing white.”
However, Kevin then revealed a little more about the wedding, sharing that it was “one of the most beautiful events I’ve ever attended in my life.”
“I can’t share details because it would be their part,” he said, before adding that the ceremony was “overwhelmingly emotional.”
Kevin and Affleck got into an argument when the ‘Armageddon’ star married his first wife, Jennifer Garner.
The director of “Chasing Amy” told Yahoo Movies in 2014, “He has a wife” [Jennifer Garner] not that [sic] take care of me all the way. And honestly, he probably doesn’t care about me anymore, [either].”
Kevin added at the time: “He’s a three A-list movie star and so is he. If he’s Jimmy Carter, I’m Billy Carter, to put it in 70s terms. And I’m not even related and s–t.”
Since Affleck’s split from Garner, the ‘Deep Water’ star has apparently rekindled his friendship with the ‘Clerks III’ director.
Kevin probably has a better relationship with Lopez, 53, who he hired to star in “Jersey Girl” alongside Affleck, 50.
The comedy drama premiered in March 2004, two months after the couple called off their first engagement.
However, nearly 20 years after that split, revived in April 2021.
After dating for another year, Affleck proposed a second time with an 8.5-carat green diamond ring estimated to be worth up to $10 million.
The “Wedding Planner” star and “Argo” director tied the knot for the first time during a surprise wedding at a chapel in Las Vegas on July 16.
The pair then had a much more lavish party hosted by celebrity event planner Colin Cowie. Aside from Kevin, other notable names attending the wedding included Affleck’s BFF Matt Damon, Jay Shetty, who ran their wedding, and top Hollywood talent agent Patrick Whitesell.
