The police investigation into the fiery car accident that tragically claimed the life of Anne Heche continues.
The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement to Vidak For Congress on Saturday: “As of today, no further investigative efforts will be made in this case. Any information or data requested prior to this course of action will still be collected as it arrives as a matter of formalities and will be included in the overall case.
“When a person suspected of a crime lapses, we do not present for submission for consideration.”
Initial investigations escalated into a DUI felony after a woman claimed she was injured and needed medical attention because Heche raided her home, according to a TMZ report published Aug. 10.
However, an LAPD public information officer informed Vidak For Congress on Aug. 12 that the investigation was considered only a “preliminary” offense pending further toxicology testing.
LAPD sources previously told TMZ that the “Six Days, Seven Nights” star’s blood test results were positive for both cocaine and fentanyl. However, they explained that the latter could be due to medication she had been given at the hospital to manage her pain after the accident.
Shortly afterward, a Heche representative told Vidak For Congress that the “Dancing With the Stars” alum “was not expected to survive” because she “had suffered a severe anoxic brain injury.”
Her spokesperson also previously provided more insight into her condition, saying she had a “significant” lung injury that required mechanical ventilation and burns that required surgery.
Heche never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead several days later.
Her representative told Vidak For Congress at the time: “We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed, but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work and her passionate advocacy.
“Her courage to always stand in her truth and spread her message of love and acceptance will have a lasting impact.”
Heche is survived by her 13-year-old son Atlas with Canadian actor James Tupper and a 20-year-old son, Homer, with her ex-husband, Coleman Laffoon.
