YouTuber author and musician Gabbie Hanna has raised concerns after posting 100 TikTok videos in one day.
Fans expressed concern for the 31-year-old social media star – who previously revealed she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder – in August 2022 because the clips featured a red message scribbled on her mirror in what appeared to be lipstick. She also claimed that someone broke into her house amid her many posts before she suddenly went silent on the platform.
Here’s everything you need to know about Hanna.
Why is she famous?
Hanna became famous on social media in early 2010. She amassed approximately 5 million followers on Vine by uploading skits to the app, which allowed users to post six-second videos until it shut down in 2016.
Hanna then turned her attention to the YouTube channel she started in 2014 under the name ‘The Gabbie Show’. She won the “Dance Showdown” internet competition before moving to Los Angeles and working for BuzzFeed for a short time.
Her YouTube page, which currently has over 5 million subscribers, continued to grow and she was nominated for Choice Comedy Web Star at the Teen Choice Awards 2019. She also tried other ventures, including music and poetry.
Hanna released a collection of poems titled “Adultolescence” in 2017 and debuted her single “Out Loud” around the same time.
She came out in 2020 with her second book, “Dandelion”, and has continued to release music, including her 2022 album, “Trauma Queen”.
What happened to her?
Hanna posted dozens of worrying clips to her TikTok account one day in August 2022. Many of the videos were about religion and didn’t seem to fit the social media influencer.
“The problem with manic episodes is that you feel great. Better than you’ve ever felt. She needs a family member, a friend, to see her now,” wrote one viewer, while another added: “Hey gabbie, I think it would be good to get in touch with a loved one!! Spend some time with someone you love!!”
One of Hanna’s latest posts showed her fans asking for prayers after she claimed someone broke into her LA home. Three hours earlier, however, she let in a “stranger” named Nicolas, who said he “felt lost” and “asked if he could go to the bathroom.”
What did her family say?
Hanna’s sister Cecilia Hanna criticized fans for continuing to tag her in concerned comments about Gabbie’s well-being.
Although the commentators looked out for Gabbie’s best interests, Cecilia said her family situation was “nothing” their “business”.
“This video was filmed and posted all day before anything happened, or at least before we knew it. We’re all in PA and she’s in LA,” Cecilia wrote in a comment.
“We’re doing what we can do from here. at the end of the day you are all strangers on the internet and it is none of your business no matter the level of concern.
“She’s grown up. I’m a 20-year-old from the other side of the country,” Cecilia concluded.
Gabbie also got a health check after several people called the police.
What are some of her biggest controversies?
Gabbie is practically synonymous with scandal. One of her first controversies came in 2017 when she made a video about a former classmate who died of a drug overdose without first consulting the girl’s family. She apologized in a follow-up video, but it certainly wasn’t the last time she had to take public ownership of her mistakes.
In 2018, she promoted a “free” set of makeup brushes that required customers to pay $10 for shipping. Several people claimed that the brushes were poorly made, started to peel after the first use, or in some cases never even arrived. Instead of apologizing, Gabbie blamed her audience in a reaction video.
“Is it these amazing, high-quality, don’t believe, awesome brushes?” she said. “No. I never said they were either. … I’m not sure what quality people were expecting when they paid $10 for 10 brushes.”
The following year, Gabbie reportedly told fellow YouTuber Trisha Paytas’s then-boyfriend Jason Nash that Paytas had herpes. She denied the accusation.
Gabbie also had to apologize afterwards she tweeted“If I could be an animal, I’d be a beyonce.”
She became embroiled in yet another scandal when a creator named Jessi Smiles claimed her ex-boyfriend Curtis Lepore raped her in 2013. .”
Her most recent controversy came in April 2022 when she told her followers that incorporating “hobbies” could help “overcome” depression.
“Listen, this advice is going to change your life. This tip isn’t just for overcoming depression. It makes you excited to wake up every day,” she said in a video on her TikTok account, which has nearly 8 million followers.
She told viewers that if they went jet skiing or learning to make carpets, they would “never be sad again.”
‘You sit there depressed. You’ve never stepped on a jet ski and would you like to? You have nothing to live for. You’ve never jumped on a plane. You’re like, ‘I don’t want to live’ and you’ve never parasailed and you want to parasail? Go parasailing,’ she said.
Where is she from?
Gabbie is from suburban Pennsylvania, where she grew up as the third of six children. Her father is Lebanese and her mother is French/Polish.
She told BuzzFeed in 2021 that she had a “tough upbringing” and that the family had “nearly become homeless” a few times.
She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013 with a degree in psychology and communication. She was also a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
