Joan Collins casts some shadow on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their first return to the UK since June.
During a guest appearance on Monday’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, the actress – who was promoting her new music film ‘Tomorrow Morning’ – was asked if she had any thoughts on ‘other Duchesses’ at the moment.
“Who could that be? I have no idea,” joked Collins, 89, seemingly referring to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Should we give one of them more oxygen?”
The interview was conducted while Harry, 37, and Markle, 41, were traveling to the UK, where the “Suits” alum gave a talk on gender equality at the One Young World 2022 summit in Manchester.
“We often hear people say, ‘Now is the time,’ but I’m going to come back to that by saying: your it’s time now,” Markle told the audience on Monday.
“The important work cannot wait for tomorrow, and this week the world is watching as you cement your place in history by demonstrating the good you are doing today.”
Susanna Reid, co-host of Good Morning Britain, later suggested that Markle was over at this point because she “found an exception to being called a diva by Mariah Carey” on her “Archetypes” podcast.
“Really?” Collins responded. “I like being called a diva every now and then. I mean, it has to be a compliment.”
In the episode, Markle told Carey, 53, that she doesn’t personally “connect” with the “diva… persona,” to which she replied, “You give us diva moments sometimes, Meghan. Don’t pretend. [you don’t].”
“What kind of diva moments have I given you?” the actress asked.
Carey then clarified that she was referring to Markle’s “visual”[s]” and not her personality, noting that she “meant nothing” with the comment.
The “We Belong Together” Singer Doubled Up Her Explanation Later tweet That she meant the comment in an “empowering” way.
“Yes! I called her a diva, in the most amazing, beautiful and powerful sense of the word!!!” wrote Carey.
