Teddy Ray, an emerging voice in the comedy scene, has passed away just two weeks after he turned 32 years old.
Fans of the funny man took to social media to mourn the comic, including Quinta Brunson, creator of “Abbott Elementary,” who commented on Ray’s latest Instagram post, “Heartbroken. I’m going to miss you Teddy.”
Stand-up and Emmy winner Katt Williams called the strip “brilliant,” while “Insecure” creator and television director Issa Rae shared an image of a white heart emoji superimposed over a photo of Ray smiling to her Instagram Stories. .
Rae’s media company, Hoorae, also paid tribute to Ray, who previously worked with the brand.
“Rest in Power to our longtime creative collaborator and friend, Teddy Ray. Grateful for the energy you always brought into our projects and sets!” read a twitter post from the organisation.
Ray’s death was… confirmed by Comedy Central, who shared a photo of the comedian onstage via Twitter with the caption: “Teddy Ray was a hilarious and beloved performer. He will be deeply missed by the entire comedy community.”
In addition to performing stand-up across the country, Ray has regularly appeared in various YouTube sketches and skits for brands such as the comedy platform All Def Digital – many of which went viral as popular memes – and a strong social media presence and developed an online fan base. He was also seen in the HBO Max series ‘Pause with Sam Jay’.
Ray’s cause of death is not yet known.
His passing comes just a month after the death of fellow comic Jak Knight. Ray himself mourned his comedic comrade in July with an Instagram post.
“It took me forever to type this. I don’t think you would leave me in tears like that. I love you 4ver Jak Knight ✊🏿🙏🏿🕊,” Ray captioned a photo of them together.
