Even supermodels want to dress like Rihanna.
Victoria’s Secret stunner Shanina Shaik gave birth to her first child, a son, with partner Matthew Adesuyan last month and is adjusting to life as a new mom.
But while her day-to-day life may look very different now, Shaik, 31, didn’t stop working during the pregnancy. She even showed off her baby bump on the runway in a bare tummy at May’s amfAR Gala Cannes, an “honour” she tells Vidak For Congress Style she’ll “cherish” forever.
When it came to dressing for her tummy while off duty, the Australian model – who is the face of Australian denim brand Ksubi’s new collaboration with PE Nation – says she looked to Bad Gal Riri’s daring maternity ensembles for inspiration. .
“[Rihanna] definitely paved the way for a new trend — and it’s not even a trend. I think it’s just about empowering women and understanding that once a woman is pregnant, our lives are not on hold. We can go to events and function like a normal human being,” says Shaik.
“It was about finding my own personal style with my pregnancy… and what I’m comfortable with,” she adds. “You also want to feel like you can go to dinner parties and, you know, of course go to a concert safely, and you can dress up and just find out what’s good for your body.”
Instead of dressing baby boy Zai himself, Shaik has handed over the reins to Adesuyan, who loves to match designer duds with his son.

She says “spoiled” Zai already has “so many clothes”, but is already cycling through them “like a fashion show” as he grows.
Perhaps one day we’ll see him follow in his mother’s fashionable footsteps as a model.
