Prince William has canceled his trip to New York City, originally scheduled for later this month, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, sources confirm to Vidak For Congress.
We were told that the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 21 will go ahead as planned, even though William will be absent.
The 40-year-old Prince of Wales, now next in line to the throne, planned to arrive in Boston with his wife Kate Middleton before traveling solo to the Big Apple for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.
According to a press release, the summit aims to “drive impact around system-changing climate solutions and strengthen The Earthshot Prize’s call to accelerate progress to restore our planet through collaboration and bold innovation.”
William would also appear alongside former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Instead, he will remain in Britain, where the nation continues to mourn the loss of its monarch, who ruled the Commonwealth for 70 years.
The news comes a week after the royal family announced the passing of the Queen, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96.
The new British sovereign, King Charles III – formerly known as Prince Charles – described his mother’s death as a “moment of great sadness”.
William first arrived at Balmoral Castle on September 8 with his father and Queen Consort Camilla after the palace issued a statement that morning about the Queen’s declining health.
At the time, Middleton, 40, stayed home in England as it was the first day of school for the couple’s children, Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4.
The palace statement read: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned about Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and with Balmoral.’
Just hours later, the death of the 96-year-old was announced on social media by Buckingham Palace.
William has joined his family – including his estranged brother, Prince Harry, and sister-in-law, Meghan Markle – for several events honoring their late grandmother.
The current heir apparent on Thursday told a mourner that walking behind the Queen’s coffin in a procession the day before was “very difficult” and “bringing back memories” of Mother Princess Diana’s funeral.
