Gina Rodriguez’s husband, Joe LoCicero, “trains” to be her doula.
“He’s really next level,” the actress-to-be, 38, gushed to Entertainment Tonight of her former “Jane the Virgin” co-star Tuesday.
She called the 36-year-old actor “magical” and added: “He’s definitely the better half, so I hope he just goes ahead and pulls our baby out.”
The Golden Globe winner continued: “He’s a martial artist and so basically… he’s cornering the fight of my life. I wouldn’t call it a fight – I’d say it’s… I’m climbing my Mount Everest and he’s going to corner me for it.”
As for Rodriguez, she’s taking “some hardcore prenatal classes” and “working on” [her] pelvic floor” prior to the arrival of their first baby.
Rodriguez added that she’s “played moms” on screen before, noting, “It’s always the irony. Like, ‘Oh, I’ve played mom a number of times, but I’m not even a mom yet.’
The actress revealed in a July Instagram post that she was pregnant and showed her positive pregnancy test in a video with her partner.
“This birthday is different,” she captioned the Instagram images last month.
Rodriguez and LoCicero married in May 2019, nearly a year after they shared their engagement news.
After LoCicero proposed in 2018, the bride-to-be told Us Weekly that she was engaged to a “very, very special man.”
“I’m marrying a feminist,” the New York University graduate said at the time. “I am marrying a man who is incredible, loving and understanding and kind and patient. I am marrying a truly incredible human being. That’s what it is. I have met a man who knows he is a man.”
The couple met in 2016 when the mixed martial artist landed a role on Rodriguez’s CW show as a stripper.
LoCicero made his move six months later when they crossed paths at a boxing gym.
