Olivia Wilde gets real about how ‘tricky’ single parenthood can be after her breakup with Jason Sudeikis.
The 38-year-old director of “Don’t Worry Darling” told Kelly Clarkson on Tuesday that “reformed” [her] family” is “tough” after her seven-year engagement to the “Ted Lasso” star, 47, ended in 2020.
However, Wilde gushed about the unexpected benefits of co-parenting son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy, 5, with Sudeikis.
“It’s possible for some really deep conversations with my kids about emotions and about happiness and about what family means and love,” she explained on the Kelly Clarkson Show performance.
“I actually got to know them in a different way. My priority is with them, as long as they are happy and healthy.”
The “OC” alumnus noted that she and the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member “agree” to put their kids first.
“There are so many families that are … mixed and different shapes,” Wilde said, calling their new dynamics “difficult but doable.”
The director of ‘Booksmart’ concluded: ‘If you can surround them with that much love, that’s okay. But it’s difficult because we don’t do it privately.”
News of Wilde and Sudeikis’ split broke out in November 2020, although she recently revealed that they had quietly split up months before.
“Jason and I had a very bumpy road and we officially disbanded the relationship by the start of the pandemic,” said the filmmaker, who became engaged to the Emmy winner in 2013, in her Vanity Fair cover story.
“Once it became clear that living together was no longer beneficial for the children, it became responsible for not doing so because we could be better parents as friends living in different homes,” she added.
The former couple is now fighting for custody of their little ones.
While Sudeikis moved on with his “Ted Lasso” co-star Keeley Hazell last year, Wilde is currently dating Harry Styles.
The couple went public with their romance in January 2021, but sparked rumors of a breakup this month before the premiere of “Don’t Worry Darling,” which stars Styles, 28.
Despite the pair barely interacting during the film debut of the Venice Film Festival, they made headlines after leaving a party together on Monday.
