He ruined it royally.
Miles Teller recalled breaking royal protocol while meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton at the London premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick” in May.
“I immediately screwed up,” the 35-year-old actor said on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday.
“You’re not supposed to put out your hand right away unless they do. But I felt the vibe, so I thought, ‘I’m going in, I’m going in.’”
Teller said he was given “do’s and don’ts” so he “wouldn’t fk up” when meeting William and Middleton, both 40, but admitted the etiquette went out the window because he was charmed by the new one. name Prince and Princess of Wales.
“It is to their credit that they were very disarming. I was lost. Prince William’s eyes,” he said, describing them as “blue as the bluest ocean.”
“Kate was lovely and warm-hearted and keeps herself so well and royal. And with William I don’t know. I just blacked out.”
The “Whiplash” star’s greeting was such a disaster that his “Top Gun” castmate Jennifer Connelly was seen laughing as events unfolded.
“I was kind of riffing on what this interaction would be like, so I guess… [Connelly] was already on the alert if she thought I was going to go rogue the whole thing,” he explained.
Despite his hiccups with His and Her Royal Highness, Teller joked that he certainly made a lasting impression on the couple.
“I think he’s a lifelong fan now,” the “Divergent” star joked about William, adding, “I just picked up on what he put down.”
Apparently, the encounter was so memorable that another Teller co-star, Jon Hamm, shared his memory of it in May.
“[Teller] a little tired of Prince William’s eyes,” the 51-year-old “Mad Men” star said on “The Tonight Show” at the time. “I remember [Teller] then came back, and he said, ‘They’re so blue. … I got lost in his eyes.’”
Hamm said Teller even told William himself that he “loved his eyes.”
“I was like, ‘Did you tell the guy? You fell in love, like you were lost in his eyes?’” he recalled.[Teller] going, ‘I think. I don’t know, I’ve gone mad.’”
Hamm also thought about “Top Gun” lead Tom Cruise interacting with William and Middleton, saying the 60-year-old “Risky Business” star followed protocol down to the last detail.
“Tom has it all locked up, of course,” the Town star said, joking that Cruise would have no problem “texting” Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen died almost two months later on September 8 at the age of 96. Her cause of death was recently revealed as “old age.”
