Michelle Branch filed for divorce from her husband, Patrick Carney, on Friday, a day after she accused the Black Keys member of infidelity.
The singer, 39, explained irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, according to documents obtained by Vidak For Congress.
In addition to requesting that the 42-year-old drummer pay her legal fees, Branch reportedly asked for primary custody of son Rhys, 4, and daughter Willie, 6 months, as well as child support.
TMZ was the first to announce the news.
The songwriter, who married Carney in April 2019, confirmed their divorce on Thursday after alleging via Twitter that the musician cheated on her while she was at home with their newborn baby.
Following the tweets since deleted, Branch told TMZ: “Saying I’m absolutely devastated isn’t even close to how I feel about myself and my family.
“The rug has been completely pulled out from under me and now I have to figure out how to proceed,” she continued. “With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”
Earlier that same day, Branch was arrested for domestic violence against her estranged partner.
The “Everywhere” singer admitted to punching Carney in the face once or twice, according to court documents.
Branch was released after paying $1,000 bail, and her hearing is set for November 7.
Davidson County Sheriff’s Office explained to Vidak For Congress Friday that she was leaving earlier than the scheduled 12 noon because her youngest child is breastfeeding.
The guitarist gave birth to her daughter in February. Four months later, she honored Carney on Father’s Day with a tribute on Instagram.
“This man makes our world go round and we love him so much,” she gushed in June. “I’m sorry you couldn’t golf yesterday, Patrick!”
Branch was previously married to Teddy Landau from 2004 to 2015 and the former couple share daughter Owen, 17.
As for Carney, the producer married Denise Grollmus in 2007. After their split in 2009, he moved on with Emily Ward. They were married from 2012 to 2016.
