Meghan Markle announced Monday that she is considering returning to Instagram after deactivating her accounts due to bullying.
“I’ll be back … on Instagram,” she told New York magazine’s The Cut, “her eyes are glowing and devilish,” according to writer Allison P. Davis.
The Duchess of Sussex was forced to hand over control of her social media accounts, as well as her passport, the ability to open her own mail and many other seemingly normal activities when she became engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.
“It was a big adjustment — a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to another life,” she told the publication.
But later in the profile, Davis wrote that Markle, 41, said she was “no longer sure she would actually return to Instagram.”
The “Suits” alum appeared on Instagram via @KensingtonRoyal and then @SussexRoyal – the latter was eventually removed after she and Harry, 37, left the royal family in 2020 – but found himself at the center of serious cyberbullying.
“We’ll revisit social media when it feels right to us — perhaps when we see more meaningful commitments to change or reform — but right now we’ve put a lot of our energy into learning about this space and how we can help.” said Harry. during a 2021 interview with Fast Company.
Markle also spoke out against social media rules within the royal family, as British media often contains racist undertones.
“There’s literally a structure,” the “Archetype” podcast host explained to The Cut of sharing photos of her two children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.
“Why would I give the people who call my children the N-word a picture of my child before I can share it with the people who love my child?” she asked.
“You tell me how that makes sense and then I play that game.”
