Meghan Markle recalled experiencing “shyness” during her first trip to a Korean spa where she had to be naked.
“It’s a very humbling experience for a girl going through puberty because you walk into a room with women from 9 to maybe 90 years old, all walking around naked and waiting to get a body scrub on one of these tables that are all lined up,” the Duchess of Sussex said on Tuesday’s episode of her “Archetypes” podcast.
“All I wanted was a bathing suit.”
Markle, 41, went to the spa in Los Angeles with her mother, Doria Ragland, as a teenager, but eventually got over her body shame.
“Once I got over that adolescent embarrassment, my mom and I would go upstairs, sit in a room and have a steaming bowl of the tastiest noodles,” Markle told her podcast guests Margaret Cho and Lisa Ling. .
This is Markle’s first “Archetypes” episode since Queen Elizabeth II’s death at the age of 96 last month. The former ‘Suits’ star paused on her podcast during Britain’s royal mourning period and flew to England with her husband, Prince Harry, to attend the late monarch’s funeral.
Earlier episodes of Markle’s new podcast have featured Serena Williams, Mindy Kaling and Mariah Carey, the latter of whom the former royal called out for her “diva” behavior.
“You give us diva moments sometimes, Meghan,” said the 53-year-old ‘Fantasy’ singer. “Do not pretend” [you don’t].”
Carey later clarified that she used the term “diva” as a compliment.
“Yes! I called her a diva, in the most amazing, beautiful and powerful sense of the word!!!” she tweeted.
Upcoming guests include comedians Robin Thede and Ziwe Fumudoh.
