He didn’t put his money where his mouth is.
Mayor Eric Adams put his foot in his mouth as he toasted a party for Haute Living magazine this week, saying, “I keep telling people, if you bet on New York, you’ll lose all your money,” told a smiling crowd.
Representatives of Adams tell us, “as he has said hundreds (thousands?) of times, he meant to say . . . ‘you’re betting on New York.’”
The party-loving mayor — who attends the city’s most A-list events nearly every night, rubbing elbows with celebrities like model Cara Delevingne and Jennifer Lopez — was at the event in Zuma on Wednesday to meet the magazine’s cover star, his actor friend. Jeffrey, to celebrate Wright.
We were told that Wright spoke of Adams during a speech and told the crowd how he modeled his character, Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon, in “The Batman,” after the former cop.
†[Adams] first came to my attention in the 90s during these major police brutality incidents in the city. So I used it as a touchstone,” Wright had previously told the Hollywood Reporter. “I looked for real references to justify my place in this role, but I relied largely on the comics for the underlying psychology and emotional journey the character is undergoing and for the relationship with the Batman.”
Also at the event were Adams’ friend, restaurateur and convicted money launderer Johnny Petrosyants, and UN Ambassador Paolo Zampolli – the man who took credit for introducing Donald Trump to Melania.
At Adam’s usual spot, Zero Bond, spies tell us they saw Governor Kathy Hochul stop at an event for about 20 minutes.
