Mark Wahlberg’s kids aren’t fond of his early ’90s fashion choices.
Asked by “Entertainment Tonight” about his kids’ thoughts on his Marky Mark era style, the actor admitted, “They’re terribly ashamed of it.”
Wahlberg, 51, fronted the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch in the 1990s, and was known for his low-slung jeans, backwards baseball caps and frequent shirtlessness.
The star’s signature style was captured in his iconic Calvin Klein underwear ads, several of which featured supermodel Kate Moss.
While Wahlberg’s kids may not like to admit it, lately they’ve been channeling their dad’s gaze.
“My son, the entire time we were on summer vacation, has no shirt on and his underwear hanging out,” said the Boogie Nights actor. “He totally stole the whole look.”
Wahlberg’s 18-year-old daughter, Ella Rae, also pays tribute to her father’s musical roots.
“She bought a Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch T-shirt from a vintage store, and she rocks it like crazy,” he told People earlier this summer, adding that the teen “didn’t do it to give me a hard time.” .”
“It’s nice to have [her celebrate] part of my past,” Wahlberg added. “That was actually a really nice moment for me.”
In addition to Ella, Wahlberg shares daughter Grace, 12, and sons Michael, 16, and Brendan, 13, with his 13-year-old wife, Rhea Durham.
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch was formed in 1991 and also included Scott Gee, Hector “the Booty Inspector” Barros, DJ-T and Ashey Ace. Their most famous song is “Good Vibrations”, and the group released two albums before splitting up in 1993.
Thankfully, Marky Mark’s fashion impact still lives on.
