It seems he”Child Beautiful” no more.
After making the big 4-0 on August 26, John Mulaney shared photos he took on the night of his birthday to Instagram showing the comedian with Olivia Munn and their 9-month-old son Malcolm, surrounded by white and gold balloons and streamers on the stage at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
Judging by the totally empty theater, the moment seemed to unfold in the wake of Mulaney’s Friday night performance of “From Scratch,” his latest stand-up special now on tour.
“There really isn’t a better way to turn 40,” the “SNL” alum captioned a photo that shows him directly onstage as Malcolm, who otherwise appears to be busy with a jumble of metal streamers, on his lap.
In another snap, which Mulaney posted to Instagram Stories, Malcolm appears to have gotten further entangled in the strips of glittery birthday tinsel as his dad watches. Above the comedian’s head is text “40”, while above Malcolm’s head his age “9 months, 2 days” floats.
Short clips also shared in his Stories show the Emmy-winning entertainer standing up while holding Malcolm, who had apparently just tasted white cake frosting — with plenty of it on his face.
Yet another shot shows the whole family posing together onstage, with Mulaney Munn, 42, kissing the forehead and holding Malcolm as the baby licks the icing off his hand.
“Turning 40 with my family and a fist of icing,” Mulaney wrote in caption about the image.
It’s no secret that the “Big Mouth” showrunner spent his final years as a 30-year-old dealing with a whirlwind of personal upheaval, starting with a relapse into drug and alcohol addiction while quarantined during the pandemic before enduring an intervention. – hosted by some of his longtime friends and creative collaborators, including Seth Meyers and Nick Kroll – and ending in rehab in late 2020.
Shortly after leaving rehab in February 2021, Mulaney filed for divorce from her longtime partner Anna Marie Tendler, whom he had been married to since 2014.
In May, it was common knowledge that he and Munn were an item, and it turned out that the couple were expecting a baby together in September.
