Jennette McCurdy claimed her abusive mother would force her to shower with one of her older brothers when she was just 11 years old.
During her “Red Table Talk” debut on Wednesday, retired actress Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris opened up about the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her late mother, Debra McCurdy.
She spoke specifically about the times her mother would allegedly ask her and her brother Scott to shower together.
“Mom sometimes overloads me with Scotty,” she read from her book, “I’m glad my mom died.”
“He’s almost 16 right now. I’m really embarrassed when she overloads us together. I can see he does that too.”
The former “iCarly” star, 30, explained that they would both “look away from each other” and find ways to distract themselves.
“When she showers us together, Mommy says it’s because she has too much to do,” Jennette—who also has brothers, Dustin and Marcus—continued reading.
‘Scotty asked if he could shower himself sometime. Mom sobbed and said she didn’t want him growing up, so he never asked again after that.”
The child star added that even if her mother showered her alone, she would reportedly still give a “breast” and “front end exam” to check for cancerous lumps.
“I say OK because I definitely don’t want cancer, and since mom’s had it and all, she’d know if I did.”
When Pinkett Smith asked how that experience affected her “dynamics” with Scott, now 35, McCurdy assured her that she still has a “beautiful bond” with her brothers.
“I’m so close with all three of my brothers, and they’ve been a source of love and consistency in my life when there really wasn’t much else anywhere else,” Jenette told the group of women.
“Isn’t it great? We have such a beautiful bond, and there’s such an understanding there I think because of the things we’ve been through together and the things we’ve seen together.”
The Nickelodeon alum has defended the title of her memoir by going into detail about the abuse she suffered before and during her rise.
Among other chilling stories, Jennette wrote of her mother allegedly putting her on a strict diet, which eventually resulted in her needing a booster seat in the car at age 14, calling her a “slut” when she started dating and lied about who her biological father was .
Jennette was estranged from Debra when the latter died of cancer in 2013.
