Ashlee Holmes Malleo expressed her “relief” after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“These last two years have been particularly difficult for me,” Jacqueline Laurita’s 31-year-old daughter wrote in an Instagram selfie. “About almost a month ago I had a psychosis.
“I was in a position where I was afraid of myself and my own thoughts,” Malleo continued. “I have chosen to finally seek good help. During this process of seeking help, I was diagnosed with bipolar II.”
The podcast host of “Your Mom Friends” started taking meds “immediately,” she went on to write.
Malleo explained, “I really feel like I’d tried everything else up to that point.”
The makeup artist noted that her condition is “so much more” than “mood swings”, adding: “It has given me the strength to learn more about it and take back control. I’m not ashamed of my diagnosis .”
The condition has given Malleo “the gift of extraordinary emotions” and “resilience,” she told her followers.
“I’m strong,” Malleo concluded. “It’s helped me to be imaginative, empathetic, and adaptive — and it’s definitely contributed to my great sense of humor in some way. This is just another chapter in my life.”
Laurita, 52, responded with emojis to the upload on social media. “🤗❤️💋❤️💋❤️,” wrote the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” alum.
Bebe Rexha, who shared her own diagnosis in August 2019, added: “Here for everything you need❤️.”
Last year, Malleo made headlines for claiming via Instagram that her estranged husband, Pete Malleo, had cheated on her with a “caught whore”.
Ashlee later backtracked on her claim, writing in November 2021 that Pete was “NOT cheating” and calling him her “partner for life” in raising their 5-year-old son, Cameron.
“His success is our son’s success,” she told her followers at the time. “We will ALWAYS be a family. We will ALWAYS be there for each other. Nothing and no one could ever break that. Period of time.”
The former couple married in August 2018 and announced their separation in November 2021. Ashlee confirmed their divorce in May.
