How Montell Jordan spent the royalties from ‘This Is How We Do It’

“Monty, dude, you made it.”

Montell Jordan’s 1995 hit “This Is How We Do It” remains a Friday night anthem, and the singer behind the classic song has reaped the benefits over the years.

“I have kids in college and ‘This Is How We Do It’ brings in mailbox money,” 53-year-old R&B star Vidak For Congress tells exclusively how he spent his royalties. “That’s the gift that keeps on giving.”

Jordan adds that it’s “cool” to leave a “legacy” for “generations to enjoy.”

The father of four notes that “This Is How We Do It” was a number 1 record and is considered one of the “top 100 party songs of the last century”.

Because of those accolades, Jordan says he’s received requests to use the iconic song in several TV commercials, movies, and advertisements.

“I’m just grateful to have been part of an amazing song that can live on long after me,” he says, adding that he embraces the fact that his song has become a weekend staple.

“I want to make sure there’s no Friday night and people don’t think about that song. When you hear ‘It’s Friday night,’ I want that to be forever something they hear when Friday rolls around every week.”

Jordan performed the iconic party song on “The Masked Singer” this week after being eliminated from the singing competition show.

“I felt like I had to put on the mask to show people who I really am because people are like, ‘Oh, you’re that ‘This is how we do it’ man.
