Heartland actor Robert Cormier died Friday at the age of 33 from injuries sustained in a “tragic” fall.
Cormier’s sister revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that Cormier died in a hospital in Etobicoke, Canada, after a serious fall, though she didn’t go into details.
His family later confirmed that information in a statement to People that read, “Robbie passed away as a result of a tragic accident.”
The statement continued: “Robbie was loved by many and his unexpected death devastated us.”
“While we are heartbroken, we take comfort in the overwhelming love and support that Robbie’s friends, colleagues and fans have shown to our family,” they concluded the statement, before thanking hospital staff and asking for privacy during this difficult time. .
Cormier, who played Finn Cotter on the long-running CBC show, was remembered as “an athlete, an actor and a great brother” in his obituary.
“He enjoyed movie nights with his family and looked up to his father immensely. He influenced many people throughout his life, be it family, teammates and friends,” the obituary reads.
He is survived by his parents Robert and Lisa, and his sisters Brittany (Derek), Krystal and Stephanie, “who meant the world to him.”
In the wake of his tragic passing, the official Instagram page for “Heartland” paid tribute to the late actor.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of Robert Cormier’s passing. He has been a beloved member of the Heartland cast for the past two seasons. On behalf of the Heartland cast and crew, our thoughts are with him and his family, who have asked for privacy during this difficult time,” the statement said.
Cormier joined the show for its 15th season and is expected to be on the upcoming season, which airs October 2.
The actor also appeared in “Slasher”, “Designated Survivor”, “American Gods” and “Ransom”.
