The iii diseases cannot stop.
Even after spending much of the late spring and summer in and out of the hospital for a variety of ailments, Halsey is still plagued with health issues, with the singer revealing they had contracted food poisoning during their “Love and Power” tour in the UK this weekend.
The ‘Closer’ singer, who uses she/she pronouns, explained that the symptoms had hit her on Friday just before she was due to take the stage at the half of the two-part Reading and Leeds Festivals in Leeds.
They informed fans of the August 27 incident in a statement on Instagram Stories that read in part: “No idea how I am alive after my set in Leeds. I STILL have horrible food poisoning! It started at 2pm yesterday and somehow I made it on stage (after the medical team at the festival were soooo helpful!),” they wrote, according to E! News.
The pop star added that even though they had previously played gigs under “messed up circumstances,” the experience of beating food poisoning symptoms during the gig “may be the worst in recent memory. It felt like I was on Jupiter the whole time. ”
The “Without Me” singer elaborated on the ordeal in a subsequent Instagram post with clips of them backstage before and after the concert looking worse for wear. Before taking the stage, they were apparently given fluids through an IV in their arm as they lay on a couch — and as they left the venue, it appears medics were waiting for them on the spot, stretcher at the ready.
Despite having nearly debilitating symptoms around Friday’s set, Halsey made it clear that they were determined to rally together to see their dedication as headliner on the main stage on the Reading half of the festival Sunday night.
Halsey hasn’t been shy about revealing the details of their struggle with multiple chronic conditions. In April they confessed that for the second time they would attend the Grammys in person within just “days” of undergoing surgery — the first time was in 2017 after a procedure intended to treat their endometriosis.
In the end, the 27-year-old had to leave the 2022 ceremony early and spent much of the rest of the month in the hospital.
In May, she revealed she had been diagnosed with a range of chronic conditions, including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjögren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Of the sudden decline in their overall health, they suggested the pregnancy of their now 1-year-old son Ender had taken a toll on their bodies.
“I don’t want anyone to worry. I’m on a treatment plan now,” they said at the time, also stressing that rehearsals for their current “Love and Power” tour were still underway.
