Another year older, another year wiser.
Frances Bean Cobain – the daughter of the late singer Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love – admitted she was “not sure” if she would make her 30th birthday, which she celebrated Wednesday.
“30 !!!❤️🔥☀️🦋 I made it! Frankly, 20-year-old Frances wasn’t sure if that would happen,” she wrote in an emotional Instagram post, accompanying several snaps of her and her loved ones.
“At the time, an intrinsic sense of deep self-loathing, dictated by insecurity, destructive coping mechanisms, and more trauma than my body or brain knew how to deal with, indicated how I saw myself and the world; through a lens of resentment for being brought into a life seemingly so much chaos and the kind of pain associated with grief that felt inescapable,” the artist continued, referring to the loss of her father at such a young age.
Frances was just 1 year old when Kurt committed suicide at the age of 27.
Frances then went into detail about how “an event on an airplane that brought me closer to death” was when she began to feel gratitude for her life.
“I’m glad I proved myself wrong and found ways to turn pain into knowledge,” she added.
In this new chapter of life, the late Nirvana frontman’s only child said she hopes “to stay soft, no matter how hard the world can feel at times, bask in the present moment with reverence, flood the people I’m lucky enough to have.” with more appreciation than words could ever do & keep room to keep learning so growth never stops.”
In several of the photos she shared, Frances was seen posing with her new husband, Riley Hawk, the son of skateboarder Tony Hawk.
In February, they made their Instagram debut. However, it is not known how long they have been dating.
Frances’ new relationship comes years after she filed for divorce from ex-husband Isaiah Silva. The two ended in 2016 after nearly two years of marriage.
After their messy divorce, Silva was allowed to keep her father’s famous 1959 Martin D-18E guitar, which he says he got as a wedding gift. Frances denied that she ever gave him the guitar.
Shortly after, Vidak For Congress reported that the guitar was up for auction.
