Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has contracted a “severe lung infection” forcing the band to cancel their upcoming shows in Brazil.
“It is with great regret that we have been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023,” said Coldplay. announced Tuesday.
“Due to a serious lung infection, Chris will have to rest under strict doctor’s orders for the next three weeks. We are working as soon as possible to capture the new data and will provide more information in the coming days.”
The band apologized for the inconvenience and appreciated the fans’ understanding, but said they “must prioritize Chris’ health” during this “challenging time”.
“We are optimistic Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour soon,” Coldplay’s statement concluded.
For now, only the shows in Brazil have been postponed. According to their website, the band is still expected to perform 10 shows in Buenos Aires, Argentina, starting on October 25.
The “Fix You” crooner, 45, has not released his own statement beyond the band’s public announcement. Martin’s longtime friend, Dakota Johnson, has also not talked about the health issue of her beauty.
A spokesperson for the group said additional information about Martin’s disease was not available.
Last month, Coldplay announced a plan to bring its Music of the Spheres World tour to the big screen with a worldwide broadcast of one of the Buenos Aires performances to thousands of theaters in more than 70 countries on October 28-29.
