The new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, shared that Buckingham Palace will deliver serious news today following the announcement that Queen Elizabeth II has been placed under medical supervision.

Truss, who was sworn in as prime minister on Tuesday, would have been informed of the queen’s condition during her presentation in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Truss tweeted the statement just five minutes after Buckingham Palace confirmed that doctors are “concerned” about the health of the 96-year-old monarch.

Truss met with the Queen on Tuesday, along with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She and the monarch were seen shaking hands in a photo at Balmoral Castle. However, the Queen was forced at the last minute to postpone a Privy Council meeting after doctors suggested she step back.

A spokesman for the royal family announced in a statement on Thursday morning that the queen has been placed under medical supervision after doctors became concerned about her health.

“Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned about Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and in Balmoral,” the royal spokesman said.
