Britney Spears clarifies marriage drama in Catholic Church

Perhaps there should be a separation between Church and Spears.

Britney Spears clarified that she had asked her wedding planner if she could marry her husband, Sam Asghari, in a Catholic church, but never made a formal request to the House of Prayer itself, as she originally insinuated.

“There was a lot of criticism that I never asked to get married in the church I imagined… I’m writing this because the church said I never asked,” the 40-year-old pop star wrote in an Instagram post. on Monday.

Spears explained that she had hired an “extremely expensive” wedding planner who previously worked for her friend Madonna and that her “first request was to get married” at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California.

“it was the only picture I had and sent to him via my phone at my house…I was told 6 weeks later…I couldn’t get married there!!!” she wrote.

“During the 2 years of Covid I wanted to go there too…I was told no because of the pandemic…it’s okay but I don’t like being called a liar when their church says I never asked!!! ”

Earlier this month, the “Crossroads” actress posted a photo of the inside of St. Monica Catholic Church and said she was not allowed to marry Asghari, 28, there because she is not Catholic.

“This is where I originally wanted to get married during COVID!!!!” she wrote at the time. “I wanted to go every Sunday… it’s beautiful and they said it was temporarily shut down due to COVID!!!! When I wanted to get married there 2 years later they told me to be Catholic and do TEST!!!! Shouldn’t the church be open to everyone????”

Shortly after, a representative from the same church in California told TMZ that they checked their records and that Spears never visited the house of worship — nor did she ask them to organize her wedding.

The spokesperson explained that the photo Spears posted on Instagram was taken via a live stream and not one of her own. The rep also confirmed that Spears was not attending the wedding in her photo.

Spears and Asghari were married in June in the backyard of her mansion in Thousand Oaks, California. Guests at the fairytale wedding included Madonna, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Selena Gomez and Donatella Versace, who designed the bride’s dress.

The couple met in October 2016 and got engaged in September 2021 after dating for nearly five years. They couldn’t get married until her 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021.

In April, Spears announced she was pregnant, but the following month she miscarried. She and Asghari vowed that they would “keep on trying to expand our beautiful family.”

The Grammy winner was previously married 55 hours to childhood friend Jason Alexander for an infamous 55 hours in January 2004. Alexander, 40, was arrested for breaking into Spears’ home on her and Asghari’s wedding day.

She was then married to Kevin Federline from October 2004 to July 2007. They share two sons: Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15.

The boys were not present at Spears’ wedding to Asghari, nor were her parents, Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears, or her siblings, Bryan Spears and Jamie Lynn Spears, thanks to an argument over her conservatory.

Federline, 44, recently claimed in a rare TV interview that Preston and Jayden don’t want to see their mother, but Spears reprimanded her ex-husband for airing personal affairs in public.
