Billy Eichner joked to Vidak For Congress that he is the “f–king” of his “Bros” colleague Luke Macfarlane and that the sex is “great”.
“We spent a lot of time together and we still love each other… we’re not dating,” the comedian, 44, told the crowd at the New York City premiere of the Nicholas Stoller-directed film.
The remark onstage prompted Macfarlane—who spotted a Vidak For Congress reporter in the audience—to joke, “Sorry, Vidak For Congress.”
“Oh, you’re from vidakforcongress?” asked Eichner.
“Oh, we’re dating. We’re dating, we’re fucking it, it’s great,” he bellowed in his usual “Billy on the Street” cadence.
“It’s very ‘Don’t worry, honey,'” he added cheekily, referring to director Olivia Wilde’s relationship with movie star Harry Styles, whom she met while directing the soon-to-be-released film.
Earlier on the red carpet, Eichner told Vidak For Congress that the AMC Lincoln Square theater where “Bros” premiered is where he saw “You’ve Got Mail” during its opening weekend in 1998.
“[It’s] a bizarre full circle moment that I could never have foreseen,” he said, noting that the Nora Ephron-directed romcom is mentioned in his film.
Eichner added that he’s excited that the cast of “Bros” is almost entirely made up of LGBTQ+ actors, having previously said he wants to empower as many people in the community as possible.
When Vidak For Congress asked if he felt like “a gay Moses,” he graciously replied, “I don’t feel like a gay Moses. I’m just trying to do my best. But a movie in which Moses is gay would interest me.”
Eichner added: “Maybe Moses was gay. That’s the next biopic. I’d love to audition to play the gay Moses.”
In the meantime, Eichner continues to promote “Bros,” which he co-wrote with Stoller.
“I love this movie so much. I’m promoting it for God’s sake because I’m so proud of it,” he gushed.
“And because it’s such a special opportunity for me and for the cast and for all of us.”
Other stars attending the New York premiere included Judd Apatow, Rose Byrne, Ben Stiller and Debra Messing, who has a hilarious cameo in the upcoming rom-com. Notably missing was Stoller, who was trapped in his hotel room due to a positive test for COVID-19.
