Adam Levine’s most famous tattoos and their meaning

Adam Levine loves his ink.

The Maroon 5 frontman is covered in tattoos from head to toe, with designs that honor his California roots, his family, and his love of music and Asian artwork.

Levine also has more than one tattoo tribute to wife Behati Prinsloo, who he was recently accused of cheating on.

“Tattos become a strange roadmap or story over the years. They always remind me of this long, weird, amazing journey that life has been,” he told People in 2013.

While Levine went viral after his Super Bowl performance in 2019 — in which he threw off his shirt and showcased his vast collection of body art — he continues to spark interest in his ink when he shows it off.

There might be one place Levine doesn’t want to get inked: his face. The rocker caused a stir in December 2021 when he revealed a rose tattooed near his eye. However, it turned out to be just a temporary design to promote Calirosa Tequila, the spirits brand he runs with Prinsloo.

“This post is for my mom: I don’t have a tattoo on my face,” Levine clarified in an Instagram story shortly after showing the artwork. “I’m too damn vain to put a tattoo on my face. I’ll tattoo the rest of this, but no, the face has to stay the same.’

Japanese Style Waves

Go big or go home: In March 2021, Levine had his entire left leg colored in with Japanese-style black and white waves, a process that took artist Nathan Kotechko three days to complete. He called the experience “ouch but worth it” on social media at the time.

Obviously the pain didn’t stop him from getting his other leg tattooed to fit; in August 2021, artist Bill Canales spent 13 hours inking waves stretching from Levine’s right hip to his ankle, calling the star “a true warrior to say the least.”

Siren

Created in 2016 by Bryan Randolph, Levine’s huge bum took six months to complete and features a siren—a half-human, half-bird mythological creature with an enchanting voice used to lure sailors to their doom through song. Levine’s is seen with a skull in her arms as a ship approaches.

The singer has been inked since 2001, when he added a dove on his left biceps. “I was 21. It was five days after 9/11. I felt it was necessary to say something with this peaceful thing on my body,” he told People in 2013.

“Real love”

Levine literally showed his love for Prinsloo in 2017, posting a photo of him grabbing her ass – and showing off his fresh finger tattoos.

“It’s worth holding on to,” he wrote at the shot.

Butterfly in a web

In 2021, the former “Voice” judge added a butterfly caught in a web atop his throat — above the word “family,” which he has on his collarbone.

Perhaps it goes without saying that the star’s love of music inspired this particular tat.

“You are so cool”

Before Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian took over the “True Romance” obsession, Levine and Prinsloo got matching “you’re so cool” tattoos, a nod to Hans Zimmer’s song from the 1993 film.
