Bethenny Frankel gets ‘Real’.
The former 51-year-old “Real Housewives of New York City” star took to social media on Wednesday to continue her campaign against photo editing and filtering, which she deemed “outright lying.”
In her Instagram post, Frankel shared side-by-side photos of herself. In the first, her skin was fuzzy, her head was smaller and her roots were hidden, while in the second, she showed her real skin texture.
“Hey, it’s me, your favorite filtered friend… I just make myself look a little bit better, a little bit younger, so you think I look better than you. Doesn’t that really build your confidence? I spend hours with technical assistants to make myself look good and you feel bad!” she captioned the post, referring to her retouched selfie.
The reality star then explained how her image was Photoshopped, saying, “More hair, less wrinkles, perfectly smooth skin, higher cheekbones, more defined eyebrows, smaller face, bigger lips…when does it end?”
The founder of Skinnygirl went on to criticize those who post edited photos as if they were authentic.
“The online world we live in is insane,” she said. “It’s so important that we recognize what’s happening with the filtering and the photoshopping and the outright lies. What is the message we all believe in? What do we share with our children?”
Frankel – who is mother to 12-year-old daughter Bryn – concluded: “Ps. When it’s filtered or I’ve been scammed, you’ll know! Xo.”
This isn’t the first time she’s been reprimanded about those who edit their looks and how harmful it can be to younger people in the apps.
The Bravo alum made waves when she called out the Kardashian family for Photoshopping and posted an edited version of her bikini body to make a point last month.
She explained that their photo editing is “not fair to women who are just trying to make ends meet”, calling it “irresponsible” and “reckless”.
“Mothers feel insecure. … They don’t have time to do all this [Photoshop]and they don’t even know how to do [with] the technology,” Frankel continued, saying that women can’t compete with the images shared by Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and their sisters.
“The more we see these images, the more we think they are real. It’s going to be a false ideal,” Frankel said. “It’s not inspiring, it’s not ambitious. It creates eating disorders, insecurity, depression. It’s serious business.”
She pointed out that the Kardashians have a responsibility to be honest about the edits they make to their content, as well as any cosmetic surgery they’ve had, to avoid creating false ideals.
Frankel’s rant on the Kardashian clan came after Kim posted a photo that appeared to have her trapezius muscle removed by the pool.
