Amber Portwood is devastated after her ex Andrew Glennon took full custody of their 4-year-old son on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old “Teen Mom OG” star took to Instagram on Thursday to express her frustration with the court’s decision.
“I am devastated and heartbroken by this outcome. I’ve worked so hard to better myself and improve my relationships with my kids,” the mother of two shared in an Instagram post.
“While I have always been candid about my past substance abuse and mental health issues, a person should be given a chance to redeem themselves and not be stuck with their past problems.”
Portwood – who previously claimed her mental illness was “used against her” – claimed she went through multiple psychological evaluations to prove herself, adding that “people who have taken therapy and taken classes and made efforts to change are not continue to be punished for past mistakes.”
The reality TV star, who described the legal battle as a “nightmare,” concluded her post by saying she “will never stop fighting” for her children and would not wish this “excruciating pain” on either parent.
Many rushed to the comments to show their support for the mother, including her co-star Catelynn Baltierra.
“I love you. I’m so sorry this is happening and SO undeserved… He needs you in his life and what they decided is so wrong on so many levels… YOU know the truth and all the hard work you put into done,” she wrote. “Don’t let NOBODY make you think otherwise! I’m here for you forever and ever ❤️”
Earlier this week, an Indiana judge granted Glennon both physical and legal custody of their son James.
While Portwood gets three nightly visits with James a month, her 38-year-old ex plans to move their child to his home state of California.
Speaking of the decision, Glennon told E! News: “We survived the nightmare. Now we are going to make the dream come true.”
Glennon and Portwood – who began dating in 2017 – welcomed James in May 2018. However, the two split a year later when the reality star was arrested for allegedly macheting him.
Shortly afterwards, Portwood pleaded guilty to domestic violence, criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence committed in front of a child under 16 years old.
The “So you’re crazy too?” The author — who has since been diagnosed with bipolar and borderline split personality disorder — was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend parenting classes.
This is not the first time that Portwood has been sued by a former partner.
The reality TV star – who shares daughter Leah, 13 with ex-fiancé Gary Shirley – was arrested for assaulting Shirley on camera.
In 2012, Portwood was sentenced to five years in prison, but was released a year later for good behavior.
Shirley and Portwood share custody of their daughter, but he has primary physical custody of her.
