Rapper A$AP Rocky was beaten Monday for assault and gun possession in connection with a November altercation with a former boyfriend in Los Angeles.
The Manhattan resident, born Rakim Mayers, was beaten on two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm with charges of personal use of a firearm, prosecutors say.
Rocky, 33, allegedly pointed a gun at A$AP Mob, a member of the rap collective A$AP Relli, and later shot him twice.
“Firing a gun in a public place is a serious crime that could have had tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” said Los Angeles District Attorney George. gascon.
The “Praise the Lord” artist was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after arriving at LAX airport with girlfriend Rihanna in April. He was released on $550,000 bail.
“My office has thoroughly examined the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearms charge was justified.”
Relli, whose real name is Terell Ephron, announced he would be suing for “irreparable damage to his career in the entertainment industry.”
Rocky previously found himself in legal hot water in 2019 when he was arrested and imprisoned in Sweden for a month for his involvement in a street fight with alleged “drug addicts.”
