COVID-19 has rained on her parade.
Lea Michele shared in an Instagram story that she will not be performing during Saturday night’s production of “Funny Girl” due to “early signs” of the coronavirus.
“I am devastated to say that due to the early signs and symptoms of COVID and an inconclusive test result – due to production safety protocols, I am not allowed to perform for today’s shows,” wrote the “Glee” alum, noting that she plans to test again and will update fans as soon as she knows more.
“Julie [Benko] today is going to crush like Fanny – just like all of our amazing students who have performed so incredibly this week as we battle a very intense covid outbreak in our theater,” her statement continued.
Michele, 36, took to Instagram earlier this week after her first performance as Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival.
“I want to say a big thank you for the support after my first performance on the Broadway stage as Fanny Brice,” she then gushed.
“I know I’ve said it before, but to join this cast was really the greatest honor. I am so grateful to everyone involved in this production.”
Michele took over the role of Fanny from Beanie Feldstein after the actress fell dramatically earlier than expected. Feldstein, who had received mixed reviews for her performance, announced her early departure on social media, writing cryptically about producers deciding to “steer the show in a different direction”.
Michele, who has a reputation in Hollywood for being a diva and having been scolded by former castmates for nasty behavior, has reportedly gone out of her way to be nice to the cast and crew.
“She’s so nice, she makes Julie Andrews look like a bitch,” a source told Vidak For Congress.
In a recent interview, Michele blamed her past behavior on her “really hard” work ethic.
