DJ Envy of the “Breakfast Club” says it will be like losing a sister when co-host Angela Yee continues with her own show.
“I’m an only child, so it was like having a sibling. I have someone who can fool me, who knows your secrets, but they also know your insecurities and know everything about you,” he said of Yee, who co-hosted the phenomenally successful radio show with him and Charlamagne Tha God for 12 years. hosted since the 105.1 show as launched in 2010.
“You can generally play with it and be stupid and I don’t have to worry about anything else. So Angela was that for me.”
Yee said last month that she would be leaving the show to start her own nationally syndicated show, “Way Up With Angela Yee” on 105.1.
Envy told us there have been no formal discussions about who will replace her, but he said the new co-host should be “someone who gets along with” the remaining host, but they should also be able to “challenge me if you’re a way; you should be able to talk to Charlamagne if you feel like it. We all argue, but at the end of the day when the show is over at 10 o’clock, [have] support each other and we keep it moving.”
Yee made a dramatic announcement about the news, first tweeting, “”The Breakfast Club as you know it is officially over,” then waited several hours before revealing that the big change was that she was moving on.
