TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio struggled to get through her Friday night mini-concert.
D’Amelio was close friends with fellow social media star Cooper Noriega, who died Thursday and had to fight to regain her composure midway through the short set.
“A friend of mine died yesterday,” she told the crowd at the Puma store on Fifth Avenue as she turned and wiped away tears, before urging everyone to check on their friends.
An insider told Vidak For Congress that her management had offered to cancel the show, but she insisted on going because she didn’t want to disappoint her fans. As D’Amelio fought to hold back the tears, the crowd screamed in support.
D’Amelio, 20, rose to fame after her younger sister, Charli D’Amelio, became a star on TikTok, with over 50 million followers. Last year she released her first single “Be Happy” and has a debut CD called “a letter to me”.
Noriega was found dead in a parking lot on Thursday, hours after posting a disturbing video about dying ‘young’.
The social media star – who has 1.7 million followers on TikTok – shared a video in bed, writing: “Who else thinks they’re going!€ [sic] young of .”
Noriega had recently opened up about taking drugs before turning 10.
Last week, he appeared on Barstool’s podcast “BFFs” and revealed that he used “Xanax, Aderall, marijuana, and nicotine” when he was just nine years old.
