The wedding bells may ring for Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn.
Despite being very private about their relationship, there are rumors that the couple has taken the next step and got engaged.
Here’s a rundown of Swift and Alwyn’s romance, which has been going strong since they were first spotted together in 2016.
When they met
Fans believe that Swift and Alwyn first crossed paths when they attended the 2016 Met Gala separately. At that time, the singer was in a relationship with Calvin Harris, but he did not attend the event with her.
Swift seemingly alluded to the theory in her 2017 song “Dress,” in which she sings the lyric “Flashback when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached.” Notably, at the gala, which was themed “Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” the actor showed up with a shaved head, while Swift showed up with a pale blonde bob.
To this day, Swift has never confirmed that the lyrics were about Alwyn.

After Swift and Harris split in the summer of 2016, she and Alwyn raised eyebrows when they attended the same private Kings of Leon concert in October of that year.
At the time, a video on a fan account showed Alwyn leaving the New York City location where Swift was also with her friends Dakota Johnson, Martha Hunt, Cara Delevingne and Lily Donaldson. It’s unclear if they interacted during the show.

In May, Swift serenaded Alwyn on the first show of her ‘Reputation’ tour.

In August 2018, the duo gave a glimpse into their relationship when they both posed for the same cactus in photos posted to their respective Instagram accounts.
A month later, Alwyn finally confirmed he was dating the country-turned-pop superstar, but remained mum on all the details.
“I’m aware that people want to know that side of things,” the actor told British Vogue. “I think we’ve been very private with success, and it’s dawned on people now… but I actually prefer to talk about work.”
Engagement rumors swirl
In January 2020, the couple first sparked engagement rumors when Swift wore a huge diamond ring on her left hand in her Netflix documentary, “Miss Americana.” Fans later believed the couple tied the knot after wearing a wedding dress in her “Willow” music video.
However, Alwyn addressed the chatter in an interview with WSJ in April 2022. Magazine, saying, “The truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say it, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say it.”

In another rare move, the pair were spotted lip-smacking as they enjoyed a romantic getaway in the Bahamas in June 2022.
The pair are said to have stayed in Lenny Kravitz’s Airstream trailer.
It’s a love story
In June 2022, The US Sun reported that Swift and Alwyn had been secretly engaged for months, telling only their inner circle about the news.
“Actually immediate family and trusted, very old friends,” a source told the outlet. “Everyone is also bound to secrecy.”
Alwyn is said to have given Swift a “beautiful ring” that she only wears privately.
The source added: “They want their love to stay away from the cameras as much as possible. This is just for them. And if and when they exchange vows, there certainly won’t be Vogue, Rolling Stone, or Hello! magazines there.”
