Sydney Sweeney has dismissed criticism she and brother Trent received after sharing several snaps from their mother’s surprise birthday party Friday night, as followers expressed disappointment at what they believed were signs of her family’s conservatism.
“You guys, this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mother’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not intended,” the “Euphoria” actress, 24, tweeted Saturday. “Please stop making assumptions. Lots of love to everyone ❤️ and happy birthday mom!
The photos in question show several partygoers wearing red MAGA-inspired hats that read “Make Sixty Great Again,” which Trent clarified on his own Instagram account.
“Trump era is over baby boy ,” one follower wrote in his comment section, while another added, “You put your sister in it .”
The photos of Sydney also show a man wearing a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt, symbolized by a black and white flag with a blue stripe in the middle.
“Nice blue lives matter flag shirt🤢 🤮,” offered another sarcastic critic, adding, “Damn, is this a Maga rally?”
Fans also took a close look at the siblings via Twitter, with one post: “Quite funny how Sydney Sweeney carefully curated her IG post so none of the MAGA inspired hats were seen and then her dumb brother’s post blew it all up 🤡🤠.”
